The Art of Cryogenics

About Cryotechnica

Foundation and Research

Incorporated in 2003, Cryotechnica International Limited was established to perform research into new applications of Superconducting High Gradient Magnetic Separation (SHGMS). SHGMS has found widespread application in the improvement of china clays and other white minerals and this technique has a myriad of potential applications in mineral extraction, industrial processing and environmental remediation.

Joint Venture in China

In 2004 Cryotechnica International Limited established a foreign equity joint venture. The company, located in Beilun, Zhejiang Province, P.R. China was named Ningbo Cryotechnica Superconducting Equipment Co. Ltd. and was established to commercialise various SHGMS applications developed by Cryotechnica.

This company, the first commercial superconductivity venture in China, has successfully produced a number of magnets and cryogenic systems, most notably a pilot/commercial scale SHGMS system (pictured above). This system employs cryogen free technology with the magnet supported by a single 4K cryocooler obviating the need for liquid helium. As such this is the first magnetic separator of its kind.

Establishment of Cryotechnica UK Limited

In 2006 it was decided to supplement the company's interests in magnetic separation projects with more general superconducting magnet and cryogenics capability. To this end, Cryotechnica UK Limited was formed in Hull, East Yorkshire.

The company's initial business will be the development of superconducting magnet and cryogenic components for OEM supply while offering CAD and technical design services. From this foundation the company will develop its own range of products for application within the global technology marketplace.
